Musselman Library Services and Resources Fall 2020: Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary Loan Services

Gettysburg College students, faculty, and staff are able to request books, book chapters, and articles from other libraries through Interlibrary Loan. Please note that we are not able to ship physical ILL materials to off-campus students.

You will receive an email when:

  • Journal article(s) or book chapter(s) are available in your ILLiad account for download
  • Book(s) are available for pick up (with directions for retrieving your materials)
Due to COVID-19, there may be a longer wait than usual for requested material, and some requests may not be fulfilled.

Please submit any questions to illform@gettysburg.edu or visit the Borrow Items from Other Libraries page.

Renewing Items

You can submit a renewal request for an item you've already borrowed through your interlibrary loan account.  The lending library makes the decision to renew or keep the original due date.

To request a renewal:

  1. Log into your interlibrary loan account
  2. In the "View and Renew" section of the left-hand menu, click "Renew Checked Out Items"
  3. Click on the "Transaction Number" for the item you want to renew
  4. On the next screen, click "Renew Request"

Done! You may hear back in a few days if the renewal is granted.

NOTE:  Due to COVID-19, renewal requests may be denied or ignored. Don't worry - as long as you return the materials, you will not be charged overdue fines or fees.

Returning Borrowed Items

If you will be on campus in the fall, please return materials from Musselman Library and Interlibrary Loan items during the first week of class.

If you will NOT be returning in the fall, please ship borrowed items to:

Musselman Library - ILL
Box 420
300 N. Washington St.
Gettysburg, PA 17325

Requesting Musselman Library Book Chapters

Since some students will not have physical access to the library, the interlibrary loan service can be used to get chapter scans of books in the Musselman Library collection.  For copyright purposes we can't scan entire books, but scanning a chapter or two (up to 10% of the book) is acceptable.  If you are studying from home and would like to borrow a Musselman-Library-owned book, see the Access to Physical Resources instructions.

Finding book chapter information

Many of the books in MUSCAT Plus have chapter information.  Search MUSCAT Plus, click on a book's title, and look for a Contents section:

You might also find book content information in worldcat.org (bottom of the book's page) or by using the "Look Inside" feature on amazon.com

Requesting a book chapter scan

  1. Log into your interlibrary loan account using your campus username and password
  2. In the New Request section of the left-hand menu, click Book Chapter
  3. Enter the book title, inclusive pages (enter "?" if you don't know the pages), and chapter title
  4. In the Notes field, type "I am away from campus.  Please scan this chapter for me."
  5. Submit request
