East Asian Studies: Citations & Help

Cite your sources using MLA style

The department recommends using the MLA Handbook (9th edition, 2021).MLA Handbook 9th edition

Use this template to construct your citations (or to proofread auto-generated citations), and keep these principles in mind:

  1. Cite simple traits shared by most works (author, title, etc.)
  2. Remember that there is often more than one correct way to document a source
  3. Make your documentation useful to readers

See these examples for a quick introduction to MLA Style 9th ed. The MLA Style Center has more advice for student writers, including how to cite some tricky sources like video games.

For more information about citation styles, see the library's page on Citation Guides and Manuals. Don't hesitate to contact the Research Help Desk for further assistance with citations, or to learn how to use a bibliographic manager like Zotero.
