Making an Ebook Central Account

Proquest Ebook Central (formerly ebrary) offers access to a growing collection of ebooks spanning all academic subject areas.

Gettysburg College users may use their Gettysburg network login and password to create an account on Ebook Central. Once signed in, users are able to make bookshelves, highlight selections, download sections/books, etc.

  1. Go to the Gettysburg Ebook Central homepage
  2. Click on the Sign In link in the upper right corner 
  3. You should be redirected to Gettysburg College's login page. Enter your network ID (email) and password.
  4. Once signed in, you can go to Settings, then Profile, and set your user preferences, including preferred citation style.

Types of Ebook Licenses

When acquiring an Ebook Central ebook, the library signs a license that determines how many users can simultaneously view the book. There are three main license types for ebooks on Ebook Central.

1 User License
  • Only one patron at a time can access the ebook. If a second patron tries to access the ebook, they will be instructed to wait in line for the ebook until the first patron's session has ended.
Non-Linear License
  • Multiple users may access the book at one time, but the library is limited to a certain number of uses (usually 325) in a one-year period.
Unlimited User License
  • An unlimited number patrons can view the ebook simultaneously.

When viewing a book in Ebook Central, the type of ebook license is indicated under Availability

Exporting a Citation

How to export a citation

  1. From the ebook's main page, click on the Cite Book button.Cite Book
  2. In the pop-up window, select your citation format from the drop down menu. 
  3. Either copy and paste the citation, or select from RefWorks or Endnote/Citavi to export your citation.

Note: the EndNote export can also be uploaded directly into EasyBib, NoodleBib (which is part of NoodleTools), or Zotero as well.
