New York Times Magazine

In addition to browsing the physical copy that you have of The New York Times Magazine, you may want to use Readers Guide to Periodical Literature to search by keyword or browse the table of contents of your issue (or those published around it).

Follow this link to a search that is already focused on this publication. Add terms to search within the publication or browse the issues on the side by publication data.

Keyword Searching Strategies

Keyword Searching

For both library catalogs and article databases, start with your keywords: such as:

1960 AND counterculture

Westmoreland AND biography

Connecting Words
  • Use AND to require both terms
  • Use OR to search for either term
  • Use NOT to exclude a term (for example, 1960s AND counterculture NOT music)

Subjects or Tags

Library catalogs will also list subjects/tags on each record that will make it easy to find other items on that same subject.

Civil rights movements -- United States -- History 20th century

Counterculture -- United States -- History -- 20th century

King, Martin Luther, Jr., 1929-1968

Rock music -- History and criticism

Vietnam War, 1961-1975

Databases will have similar tags/subjects. If you click the tag, it'll show you everything in the database that shares that tag.
