As a genre of scientific writing, the announcements in Microbiology Resource Announcements have a few characteristics worth noting:

• Concise: <500 words, not including abstract and references
• Information-Dense: the example we looked at in class cited 19 sources in 500 words, and that's not uncommon
• Descriptive Writing: as opposed to something that shares original findings revealed through experimental design
• Goal is to Share Resource: audiences for this kind of writing ultimately want to know how the resource was made and how they can access it

Background Information

Zotero is citation-management software that exists to make your life easier. If you're interested in setting it up and seeing how it works, here is what you need to do:

1. Create a free account online
2. Download both the desktop application and the browser connector
3. Open the desktop application and navigate to Preferences > Sync so you can connect your free account to your downloaded application
4. Skim Zotero's support page or the library's Citations guide for an overview of how it all works
