Online Film Databases: From Musselman Library

Musselman Library subscribes to several online film databases, which allow Gettysburg College users to stream film anywhere. While you can browse each film collection described below, all films titles have been added to MUSCAT Plus, so you can search for films in one location. To limit your search results to film that is only available online, narrow your results (in the left column) to "Available Online," and limit the source type to "Videos."

Academic Video Online This link opens in a new window
A database of videos available online in diverse subjects including Anthropology, History, Economics, Education, Film Studies, Health, Religion, and Women's and Gender Studies. Includes the American History in Video, Ethnographic Video Online, Opera in Video, and Theatre in Video databases.
Docuseek2 This link opens in a new window
Provides streaming access to documentary and social issues films and videos. Docuseek2 is a collection of over 1000 films and documentaries from a variety of distributors, including Bullfrog, Collective Eye and Icarus Films.
Feature Films for Education This link opens in a new window
Collection of current and hard-to-find titles, including literary adaptations, blockbusters, classics, environmental titles, foreign films, social issues documentaries, animation studies, Academy Award® winners, and more. Film distribution dates range from 1920 to present. This platform works best with the Google Chrome browser.
Films on Demand: Humanities and Social Sciences Collection This link opens in a new window
Provides streaming videos from Films Media Group in the Humanities and Social Sciences Collection.
Kanopy Videostreaming This link opens in a new window
A database of on-demand streaming movies and documentaries covering a variety of subjects in the humanities, social sciences, and physical sciences.
Met Opera on Demand: Student Access This link opens in a new window
Streaming video access to more than 800 full-length performances from the Met's Live in HD series, as well as more than 350 full-length video and audio performances. Adobe® Flash® Player is required to access Met Opera on Demand. Internet browser(s) should be fully up to date. Not currently compatible with iPad or iPhone.
Swank Digital Campus This link opens in a new window
Streaming video database of both feature films and documentaries. Films can be viewed on all standard internet browsers, but requires the download of the Swank Media Player app to view on a mobile device.

Online Film Databases: From the Web

American Archive of Public Broadcasting
A collaboration between the Library of Congress and WGBH in Boston, the American Archive seeks to preserve public media. More than 7,000 historic public radio and television programs are now available for streaming and more content will be added periodically. In addition, the website provides data records for approximately 2.5 million items inventoried by public broadcasting stations for this project.

Features more than 3,000 films created by the US government on a variety of topics, from training films to history, from our national parks to the U.S. Fire Academy and the Postal Inspectors.
Internet Archive: Moving Image Archive
Library of free movies, films, and videos. Contains thousands of digital movies uploaded by Archive users; many are available for free download.
National Screening Room
Digitized films from the Library of Congress' moving image collection. Covers American history and culture from 1890-1999.
