Check Out and Research Help Desks

The Check Out Desk and Research Help Desk are able to assist patrons in accessing collections and research in multiple ways.

The Check Out Desk is 39" tall. The Research Help Desk is 42" tall, with a portion to the side that is 29" tall. Consultations take place next to the Research Help Desk at circular tables which can accommodate a wheelchair.

Examples of assistance provided through the Check Out Desk:

  • Retrieving library materials from the shelves. Staff can pull materials for you using our Muss 2 Go service. Find the item you want on MUSCAT Plus, then scroll down to “Get library copy.” You can pick up your item on the bookshelves adjacent to the Checkout Desk on the main level along the interior accessible route.
  • Scanning materials
  • Renewing materials (in person or by phone)

Examples of assistance provided through the Research Help Desk (RHD):

  • Searching the library catalog for books or media by title or topic
  • Accessing databases for researching a topic
  • Determining availability and locations of books or articles from citations
  • Requesting materials through interlibrary loan.
  • In-depth research appointments

Database Accessibility

Musselman Library subscribes to a variety of third-party databases which have varying levels of accessibility built in. The Library Accessibility Alliance has audited many of these databases and their evaluations are available online.
