Interlibrary Loan: For Students

Textbooks and ILL

Students can and should use ILL to request research material for their classes. A student will need to consider a few things before they request textbooks via ILL.

  • Due dates can not be guaranteed for the whole semester. Keeping ILL books past their due date jeopardizes Musselman Library's borrowing privileges with the lending library.
  • The book can be recalled at any time. Recalled books must immediately be returned to the library.
  • Textbooks are hard to acquire through ILL. Many libraries do not lend textbooks out because of the cost of books and/or the need to place them on course reserve.

Study Abroad and ILL

Many students study abroad at some point while at Gettysburg College. Students may continue to use ILL while abroad, however, the service is limited.

  • Students may only request electronic material, e.g. book chapter scans, journal articles, newspaper articles.
  • Physical items requests will be canceled. We can not ship internationally.
  • Ebook requests are rarely fulfilled. We recommend using your host institution's library for physical items.
