Music: Citations & Help

Citing Your Sources

Ask your professor for his/her preferred citation style.   For MLA, APA, or Chicago/Turabian style, NoodleTools Express allows you to create citations using a quick and easy form. Just choose your citation style, what you're citing (books, journal article, website, etc.), and fill in the citation information. You can't compile your citations into a source list, but you can copy and paste them directly into your document.

Writing about music presents a specific set of challenges when it comes to citation.  The resource Writing About Music: A Style Sheet / by D. Kern Holoman provides rules for citing musical works from a wide range of sources. In addition to the e-book copy linked here, a physical copy of the third edition is available at the Research Help Desk.

For more information about citation styles, see the citation guide.
