It is beneficial to become certified in different teaching methodologies. Not only does it strengthen you as a music educator, but it makes you more marketable.
Conferences are a great way to network with in-service teachers and to work on professional development. There are professional conferences at the national and local level.

Get involved with PCMEA! It is the collegiate branch of the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA). There are a number of workshop and networking opportunities available through the group.
