Reading Programs, Resources, and Communities: Braiding Sweetgrass (2022)

Why are we reading this particular book right now?

• We read together in order to work toward the commitment of our land acknowledgement statement, adopted in 2021
• We read together as a meaningful action that contributes to the anti-racist educational goals of Gettysburg College
• We read together in order to prepare for Robin Wall Kimmerer's visit to Gettysburg College on September 19, 2022 (mark your calendars for an evening lecture - open to the public)

All discussions will be held over the lunch hour (noon-1pm) in hopes of accommodating as many employees and summer students as possible. Feel free to bring your lunch.

We will meet at Painted Turtle Farm, near the Three Sisters Garden. There are umbrellas for shade. In case of inclement weather, we will relocate to Musselman Library (Browsing Room, main level). Please register via Engage to receive reminders and location updates.

• Tuesday 7/5/22 noon-1pm - read "Tending Sweetgrass" pg. 61-117 (57 pages total) - register for session 2
• Wednesday 7/20/22 noon-1pm - read "Picking Sweetgrass" pg. 119-201 (83 pages total) - register for session 3
• Thursday 8/4/22 noon-1pm - read "Braiding Sweetgrass" pg. 203-300 (98 pages total) - register for session 4
• Friday 8/19/22 noon-1pm - read "Burning Sweetgrass" + epilogue pg. 301-384 (84 pages total) - register for session 5
